Описание

"Divine and Dreadful Scent" ("Holy and Horrifying Aroma", "Sacred and Terrifying Fragrance") is a science fiction novel with detective elements by Estonian author Robert Kurvitz, published in 2013.

It served as the basis for his critically acclaimed video game "Disco Elysium," released six years later in 2019. Despite being hailed by critics as one of the most important works in recent Estonian literature, it did not achieve widespread recognition—only about 1,000 copies were sold. This failure plunged Kurvitz into depression and alcoholism until he was helped out by his friend Kaur Kenner, who suggested adapting the book into a game script.

The story takes place within the same universe as "Disco Elysium," approximately twenty years after its events. The plot revolves around three men still searching for their missing school friends—the four sisters who vanished under mysterious circumstances two decades earlier. Throughout the narrative, there are constant references to various periods of time in the protagonists' lives and investigations.
